Bachelor of Science (BSc)

Understand what makes the human body capable of such incredible things.
The Bachelor of Science (Honors Specialization) program is designed to give students a deeper appreciation of the life sciences. In addition to investigating courses throughout the broad scope of Kinesiology, that include exercise physiology, biomechanics, anatomy, sports injuries, exercise psychology, sport management and professional ethics, students must choose courses such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Math from the Faculty of Science.
- - Social Foundations of Kinesiology
- - Functional Human Gross Anatomy
- - Psychology of Human Movement Science
- - Introduction to Psychomotor Behaviour
- - Introduction to Human Physiology
Students are also required to complete 1.0 courses from the subject areas of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics as follows:
- and ;
- and ;
- ;
- or or the former Physics 1028A/B or the former Physics 1301A/B or and or or the former Physics 1029A/B or the former Physics 1302A/B or .
Progression from Year 1 to Year 2
This is a limited enrolment module (75 spaces) and progression standards may fluctuate from year to year.
- To progress into this module, students require:
- A minimum 70% cumulative average in first year
- No grade less than 60%
- A minimum 70% modular average in the following 3.0 principal courses
- Kin 1050A, 1060B, 1070A, 1080B, and Physiology 1021
- Students who select the BSc module during , but who are not eligible, will automatically be considered for the Honors BA module (see below) and can attempt to transfer into the BSc module the following year
- Students with a reduced course load will be considered
- Students must have completed the 1.0 science prerequisites to be considered for the BSc
- Students who are missing some or all of Kin 1050/1060/1070/1080 and Phys 1021 are eligible to apply
- Students need to complete at least 1.0 courses from each of the three categories (A, B, and C). The categories and the details on breadth requirements can be found in the .
- Students need to complete at least , with at least 1.0 of which being senior courses (numbered 2000 - 4999). Essay credits are designated with E (1.0) or F/G/Z (0.5).
- Essay and breadth requirements are a degree requirement and do not need to be completed in year 1.
Note: The Honours Specialization in Kinesiology - BSc is a limited enrollment program. More competitive academic standing may be required when demand exceeds enrollment capacity. In the event demand exceeds enrollment capacity a student’s term average will also be taken into consideration. Admission to the module is restricted to students registered in the School of Kinesiology.
Graduation minimum average requirements
Students must maintain a 70% average on their senior kinesiology courses with no grade less than 60%. Additionally, students must maintain a cumulative average of 65% with no failed courses.
2.5 Required Credits
- Kinesiology 2032A/B
- Kinesiology 2230A/B
- Kinesiology 2241A/B
- 1.0 Kinesiology activity based courses
Year 2 Course Selection Tips
- Kinesiology 2230A/B and 2241A/B are taught in both terms to provide flexibility when timetabling. You need to only register in each course once. It is recommended that you do not take Kin 2032A/B, 2230A/B and 2241A/B in the same term.
- It is recommend that you enroll in no more than 3.5 Kinesiology credits in year 2. Prior to graduation Honors Specialization students can take a maximum of 12.5 Kinesiology credits; it is important you balance your electives and Kinesiology courses each year.
- Look ahead to years 3 and 4 Kinesiology courses to see if there are any second year pre-requisites you need to complete.
External Science Requirements
- Consider taking a Science/Medical Science credit from the 2100 level or above in both semesters. With 3.0 Science/Kinesiology science credits required in years 2 -4 taking one per semester helps balance your course load each year.
- Of the 3.0 senior science credits taken in years 2 -4 up to 2.0 can be replaced with Kinesiology courses (see list below). This means 1.0 must be from the Faculty of Science at the 2100 level or higher. Of the remaining 2.0 you can take all Kinesiology, all Science or a combination of courses from both programs.
- Courses cannot be double counted toward Kinesiology and Science requirements. For example you cannot take Kinesiology 4450A/B and use it to complete a Kinesiology Bioscience course and an external science requirement, it can only be counted towards one or the other.
Kinesiology Courses That Can Be Used To Complete External Science Requirements (up to 2.0 not previously selected)
- Kinesiology 3339A/B, 3341A/B, 3343A/B, 3347A/B, 3353A/B, 3360A/B, 3480A/B, 4420A/B, 4430F/G, 4432A/B, 4433A/B, 4443, 4450A/B, 44520A/B
